Shanghai Strengthens Digitalization in Road Transportation & Storage of Dangerous Goods (August 8, 2022)
On August 8, 2022, Shanghai Municipal Transport Commission, jointly with the Shanghai Emergency Management Bureau and Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau, unveiled the Notification on Further Strengthening Management for Road Transport and Storage of Dangerous Goods (Hazardous Chemicals) in Shanghai, which has come into force from August 15, 2022. China to Construct System for Carbon Emission Calculation
On August 19, 2022, China released a plan to accelerate the construction of a unified and standardized system to calculate carbon emissions, aiming to peak its emissions by 2030 and secure carbon neutrality by 2060. (Read more)
China Shandong Pushes Forward Hazchem QR Codes Application
On August 31, 2022, the Department of Emergency Management of Shandong, China issued the official document to outline the measures and targets for the Hazchem QR code application in Shandong province. It is noted in the document that hazardous chemicals manufactured or imported in Shandong must be affixed with the Hazchem QR code. (Read more)
China MEE to Add 6 Substances into IECSC (August 31, 2022)
On August 31, 2022, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) published a public invitation for comments on the addition of 6 substances to the Inventory of Existing Chemical Substances in China (IECSC). Comments are welcome before September 14, 2022. (Read more)

Japan Announces 185 New Chemicals Substances as General Chemical Substances under CSCL
On July 29, 2022, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), and Ministry of the Environment (MOE) released Joint Notice No.4, announcing the names, serial numbers, and MITI numbers of 185 new chemical substances that have been notified for five years and evaluated to be neither persistent nor highly bioaccumulative under the Chemical Substance Control Law (CSCL). Japan PRTR: CAS Numbers Updated for Class I and II substances
On July 26, 2022, the Japanese National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) updated the List of CAS numbers for the Class I and Class II substances controlled under the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) Law. (Read more)

Updated New Chemical Substances Hazard Assessment Results under K-REACH
On August 23, 2022, South Korea’s National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) issued NIER Notification No.2022-47 to adopt the hazard assessment results of new chemical substances registered under K-REACH, which came into effect immediately. (Read more)
South Korea Finalizes Regulation on Designation of Substances subject to Authorization
On August 25, 2022, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) officially published the Regulation on Designation, etc. of Substances subject to Authorization to specify how to select candidate substances and designate the authorized substances under K-REACH. The Regulation will come into effect on October 15, 2022. (Read more)
South Korea Expands QR Codes Pilot to 39 Household Chemical Products subject to Safety Confirmation
South Korea is set to expand the use of QR codes to all household chemical products(39 sub-categories of products) that are subject to safety confirmation under K-BPR from June 2022. Previously, the QR codes pilot program for disinfectants has proved successful. (Read more)
