REACH24H Korea Contributes Expertise to Korean Ministry of Environment\’s PFAS Regulatory Consensus Working Group

SEOUL, 14 JULY 2023 – REACH24H Korea is proud to announce its involvement in the international regulatory consensus working group led by the Ministry of Environment of Korea. On July 7, 2023, the second meeting of this group was held to gather expert opinions and share insights on the current state of international regulations concerning per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and shape future directions for the legislation and compliance for the industry.

As a renowned expert in the field, REACH24H Korea’s General Manager, Seongmin(Mike) Sohn was invited to deliver a comprehensive presentation on the current status of international PFAS regulations. The presentation covered the existing measures concerning PFAS from the Stockholm Convention, the EU’s alignment with the Stockholm Convention and EU REACH, Korea’s current regulation with the SVHC legislation plan and K-REACH management, to the US federal and state restriction movements.

The meeting focused on reviewing the distribution of PFAS for firefighting agents and examining the process for selecting candidate substances for the development of alternatives in Korea. The group discussed methodologies and considerations involved in the selection of candidate substances for the development of alternative substances. The aim is to identify sustainable alternatives that can effectively replace PFAS and minimize their environmental impact.

During the closed meeting, REACH24H Korea actively participated and had the opportunity to witness an overview of the Ministry of Environment of Korea\’s 2023 Work Plan, as well as updates on international regulations and the authority\’s engagement.

This significant gathering of experts and stakeholders was a great opportunity for REACH24H to facilitate the development of alternative substances and green processing, bringing proper movements of Korean policy and industry. Through collaborative efforts with the authorities and shared insights, REACH24H will strive to make substantial progress in the field of chemical regulatory compliance, ensuring a safer and more sustainable future.
