REACH24H Attends ICMAD 2020 Cosmetic Technical Regulatory Forum
News Lead: REACH24H was invited as a sponsor to participate in the ICMAD 2020 Cosmetic Technical Regulatory Forum, held in Manhattan Beach on February 18-19, 2020. The ICMAD’s Cosmetic Technical/Regulatory Forum has long been hailed as one of most relevant U.S. platforms for the discussion of cosmetics regulations, product innovation and development.
ICMAD’s Cosmetic Technical/Regulatory Forum is one of the most popular cosmetics forums on the West Coast. In the two days, this national-level forum covered a whole year’s worth of updates and expert evaluations on the cosmetics industry, with 160 guests.
REACH24H was invited to be sponsor, speaker and exhibitor at the Forum. REACH24H USA Inc. General Manager, Robert Kiefer presented the latest update on cosmetics regulations in China covering 2019 and what is to come in 2020, including new guidelines for cosmetics classifications and on the evaluation of efficacy claims, new changes on labeling, updated testing requirements and new ingredients notifications, as well as the impact of these regulatory changes on foreign cosmetics companies.
Beyond the significant regulatory changes experienced across mainland China –with the most relevant one being the approval of highly anticipated Cosmetic Supervision and Administration Regulation (CSAR) in early January 2020– cosmetic regulations in other Asia-Pacific countries are continually being amended and updated. China Taiwan and Korea, for example, have overhauled their respective cosmetic regulations. Japan made several refinements to its cosmetic ingredient standards, Halal regulations in Malaysia are currently being implemented and Australia is set to implement its AICIS regulatory scheme for cosmetics in 2020.
Considering these changes will greatly affect stakeholders’ business decisions or operations, and the REACH24H Cosmetics team has been following up, both through regulatory reviews and analysis, and visits across the Asia-Pacific region, with a specific emphasis on Australia, Japan, Korea, China Taiwan, and ASEAN regulations.
During the interactive session, Robert Kiefer and REACH24H USA Inc., Regulatory & Technical Director, Shannon Gainey welcomed fellow professionals in the company booth.
Dr. Linda Katz, Director, Office of Cosmetics and Colors, US FDA was the Keynote speaker during the plenary session. Robert joined her later on for his two presentations on Asia Pacific and China.
