Latest progress on the active substances for plant protection products approaching their expiration in EU in 2018
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/524 was recently published in the official Journal of the European Union to extend the approval periods of a group of pesticide active substances which were initially to expire on 30 April, 2018. According to this latest regulation, the new approval expiration date for these active substances will be 30 April, 2019. The approved active substance checklist (EU) No 540/2011 has been amended accordingly. This decision came into force on 1 April 2018.

Furthermore, according to the latest news from Health Safety Executive of UK, EU has approved the renewal of the following active substances: Bentazone, forchlorfenuron, propyzamide, silthiofam, zoxamide. The formal announcement has not yet been published on the EU website. It is expected that the authorisations for products containing these substances will need to be renewed in accordance with Article 43 of Regulation (EC) 1107/2009, with applications to be submitted by 31 August 2018 (forchlorfenuron, bentazone) and 30 September 2018 (propyzamide, silthiofam, zoxamide).
