Recently, a research which named ‘Actions of Bisphenol A and Bisphenol S on the Reproductive Neuroendocrine System During Early Development in Zebrafish’ has been published on the ‘Endocrinology’. The authors of this research reported that the BPS has the similar effect on the reproductive neuroendocrine system during early development in Zebarfish as BPA.

BPA, a widely known endocrine disrupting chemical, is a constituent of plastic polycarbonate and epoxy resins, which are widely used to produce plastic food and beverage container, paints, adhesives, medical device and food packaging. There are extensive researches showed that BPA could have an effect on human reproductive function, specifically by altering circulating steroid hormones, cancer, obesity and the health of infant and children.
Furthermore, some regulatory agencies, like Canada, European Commission, US FDA have banned BPA in baby bottles.  BPA is not safe when using in food contact material, how about BPA’s substitute BPS?

BPS, as a ‘safer’ alternative of BPA, has been used in food containers widely. However, according to ‘Actions of Bisphenol A and Bisphenol S on the Reproductive Neuroendocrine System During Early Development in Zebrafish’, low levels of BPS exposure presented the similar effect as BPA, including increased numbers of hypothalamic GnRH3 neurons and increased expression of kiss1, gnrh3, and erα. All of these are relevant to reproductive neuroendocrine system.

For BPA-free containers always not label the substitute，this could cause some problem concerns. Hence, we suggest that when you choose the food containers， you should pay attention to the BPA or BPA-analogue, just like BPS plastic products, and you also can choose other materials such as glass when necessary.
