On October 16, 2024, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) released the Systematic Framework for Technical Standards on Environmental Risk Assessment and Control of Chemical Substances (2024). This guidance document is formulated in response to the requirement under Action Plan for New Pollutants Treatment for creating a robust standard system for screening, assessing, and controlling the environmental risks of chemicals, thereby accurately identifying new pollutants of high risk for priority management. (Read more)

South Korea and Australia


By MoE Notice No. 2024-612, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) opened a public consultation to solicit comments on the proposed updates to the Designation of Restricted Chemicals and Prohibited Chemicals. Based on the hazard assessment results under K-REACH, lead compounds, and methylene chloride are proposed to be designated as restricted substances. Additionally, chrysotile will be adjusted from a restricted chemical to a prohibited chemical. (Read more)

India, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore


In October of 2024, India’s Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) further delayed the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for 3 organic compounds: Styrene (Vinyl Benzene), Acrylonitrile, and Maleic Anhydride (Read more); and 6 fatty acids: Lauric Acid, Acid Oil, Palm Fatty Acids, Rice Bran Fatty Acids, Coconut Fatty Acids, and Hydrogenated Rice Bran Fatty Acids.
