Halal cosmetics is one of the most promising and potentially high value-added industries since the halal-certified products incorporated with quality, safety, hygiene, and sustainability. Global Islamic Economy Report forecasts that the demand for world halal cosmetics will reach $95 billion by 2024, with Malaysia ranking the fourth biggest gold consumer. Malaysian government has been investing significantly in various halal product segments (including halal cosmetics) to become the global halal hub.

Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) has received worldwide recognition as a credible halal certification agency and played a pioneering role in the establishment of the Halal Guidelines. For any enterprises who wants to produce halal cosmetics, they need to adhere to the halal certification standards and procedures set by JAKIM. The updated Halal Certification Procedure Manual, Halal Management System, and Halal Standards will be implemented on Jan. 1, 2021, bringing improved halal certification requirements, procedures, and standards.
