The year 2020 saw many significant regulatory updates in the Asia-Pacific region. China finalized the overarching regulation-Cosmetic Supervision and Administration Regulation (CSAR) after 30 years of waiting and introduced a series of supporting rules, indicating the overhaul of China’s cosmetic regulatory framework. South Korea implemented the regulations on custom cosmetics and revised the requirements for functional cosmetics, restricted ingredients, colorants, etc. Japan, ASEAN and China Taiwan made significant changes on ingredient lists. And there were several regulatory updates in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Australia.
Global cosmetic stakeholders need to stay vigilant so as to cope with frequent regulatory changes, effectively address compliance challenges, and aim for great success while shouldering their social responsibilities.
