China Requires Declaration of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products
On September 29, 2024, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) jointly released a new national standard, GB/T 44652-2024. This standard sets forth specific requirements for the declaration of hazardous substances (HS) and hazardous substance groups (HSG) in electrical and electronic products (EEP). The new guidelines align with existing regulations such as China RoHS 2.0 and GB 24427-2021, which mandate the reporting of substances exceeding established concentration limits.
The declaration applies to substances prohibited, restricted, or requiring labeling under Chinese regulations. This includes lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and certain brominated flame retardants. Manufacturers must report HS/HSG concentrations that exceed the specified threshold levels and ensure declarations are consistent throughout the supply chain. For exports, compliance with overseas regulations like EU REACH, RoHS, and other international standards is also necessary.
REACH24H offers comprehensive regulatory support to help companies comply with these new requirements. Our experts assist in navigating the declaration process, understanding substance limits, and meeting both domestic and international regulatory standards, ensuring smooth market access and regulatory compliance.
