Global Food Regulation Updates | September 2022

In September of 2022, China released 18 GB standard drafts on food additives, including GB 2760. South Korea revised Health Functional Food Code. Japan released new requirements for imported organic agricultural products and organic livestock products. Indonesia proposed to amend the quality requirements for health supplements. EU promulgated its new regulation on food contact recycled plastics/recycled plastic FCMs. America revised the irradiation phytosanitary treatment of imported fruits and vegetables. Canada enabled the use of Pectin Lyase from Trichoderma reesei RF6199 in various foods. Australia revised the product standard for beverage.

On September 8, 2022, China National Health Commission (NHC) unveiled the exposure drafts of 18 national food safety standards on food additives, which include six newly established standards, nine newly revised standards, and three amendment sheets. The third draft of GB 2760 the Standard for Uses of Food Additive was also included. These drafts are available for public comments prior to October 10, 2022. (Read More)

More regulation highlights in China:

🇪🇺EU 


EU promulgated its new regulation, Commission Regulation (EU) 2022/1616, on food contact recycled plastics/recycled plastic FCMs on September 20, 2022. This new Regulation will enter into effect on October 10, 2022. At that time, the current regulation, Commission Regulation (EC) No 282/2008, will be repealed. (Read More)

🇺🇸America 


According to the Plant Protection Act, some fruits and vegetables from some areas of the world must be treated for insect pests to be eligible for entry into the United States. On September 19, 2022, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced to revise and extend the approval of an information collection associated with regulations for the use of irradiation as a phytosanitary treatment of imported fruits and vegetables. Any comments shall be submitted via david.begley@usda.gov and joseph.moxey@usda.gov before November 18, 2022. (Read More)
